Venus Sign Calculator
Enter your birthday to find your Venus sign, down to the degree.
Your Venus sign is the zodiac sign the planet Venus was in when you were born. Astrologers read it as how you love, what you find beautiful and what you value. It is often different from your Sun sign, though never more than two signs away. To find it, you only need your date of birth.
How the calculator works
The calculator works out where Venus appeared from Earth, against the zodiac, at the moment you were born. It reports the sign, the degree, the dates Venus entered and left that sign, and whether Venus was moving forward or backward.
We compared our Venus positions with values from NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory at 10 dates between 1950 and 2040. The largest gap was 4.8 arcseconds, which Venus covers in about 2 minutes. The figures are on the method page.
Why Venus is never far from your Sun sign
Venus orbits closer to the Sun than Earth does. Seen from here it swings out to one side of the Sun, then back and out to the other, and never gets further than 47.2 degrees of the zodiac from it. A sign is 30 degrees wide, so your Venus sign is either your Sun sign or one of the two signs on either side.
| Venus is in | Share of days |
|---|---|
| The same sign as the Sun | 24% |
| The sign before or after | 58% |
| Two signs before or after | 18% |
Morning star and evening star
When Venus is ahead of the Sun in the zodiac, it sets after the Sun and shines in the west at dusk: an evening star. When it is behind the Sun, it rises first and shines in the east before dawn: a morning star. Within about 10 degrees of the Sun it is hard or impossible to pick out of the glare. The calculator tells you which applied on your birthday. Some astrologers read a morning-star Venus as more impulsive in love and an evening-star Venus as more considered.
Venus retrograde
About every 19 months, Venus passes between Earth and the Sun. For 41 to 43 days around that passage it appears to move backward through the zodiac. This is Venus retrograde. Venus spends less of its time retrograde than any other planet: 7.2% of days between 1930 and 2040, so roughly one person in 14 is born with it.
A retrograde is also why Venus can linger. It usually crosses a sign in about 25 days, but when it turns around inside one it can stay far longer. The longest stay between 1930 and 2040 was 126 days in Gemini, from April 3, 2012 to August 7, 2012.
A worked example
Take someone born on June 15, 1995. Venus was at 5°51′ Gemini that day, moving forward. It had entered Gemini on June 10, 1995 and left on July 5, 1995, so everyone born between those dates has Venus in Gemini. That is the same sign as the Sun. Venus stood 18 degrees behind the Sun, which made it a morning star, rising before the Sun.
Venus keeps an eight-year rhythm: after eight years it is back in almost the same place on the same date. On June 15, 2003 it was at 6°31′ Gemini, 0.7 degrees from where it stood in 1995. Someone born exactly eight years before or after you usually shares your Venus sign.

Read down the last column and a pattern shows. Every fifth retrograde returns to the same part of the zodiac, eight years later and about two degrees earlier. Five retrogrades in eight years mark out a five-pointed figure around the zodiac, often called the Venus star or the rose of Venus.
What each Venus sign means
These are the traditional readings of Venus by sign.
Venus in Aries
Venus in Aries falls for people quickly and says so. It likes the chase, plain words and a partner who can keep up. Astrologers call Venus weakened here, in the sign opposite its own Libra, because patience and compromise come second to wanting something now.
Venus in Taurus
Venus rules Taurus, so astrologers consider it at full strength in this sign. Affection is shown through touch, food, comfort and turning up reliably. It is slow to commit and slow to leave, and it can hold on past the point where holding on helps.
Venus in Gemini
Venus in Gemini is won through conversation. It wants a partner who is curious, funny and never dull, and it shows interest by asking questions and sending messages. The traditional caution is restlessness: attention moves on when the talk runs dry.
Venus in Cancer
Venus in Cancer loves by looking after people. It remembers what you like to eat, keeps old photographs and wants a home that feels safe. It is easily hurt and tends to withdraw instead of saying so, which astrologers read as the main difficulty of the placement.
Venus in Leo
Venus in Leo is generous and wants romance to feel like an occasion. It gives gifts, praise and loyalty freely and expects to be adored in return. Being ignored is what it finds hardest, and pride can get in the way of an apology.
Venus in Virgo
Venus in Virgo shows love through practical help: fixing the thing, noticing the detail, remembering the appointment. Tradition calls this the fall of Venus, the sign where it is least at ease, because it analyses feelings instead of indulging them. The criticism it is known for is usually care, badly delivered.
Venus in Libra
Libra is the second sign Venus rules, and here its interest turns to partnership itself. It is charming, fair and good at making other people comfortable, with a strong eye for style. Astrologers note a habit of keeping the peace at the cost of saying what it wants.
Venus in Scorpio
Venus in Scorpio wants all or nothing. It bonds deeply, keeps its feelings private and expects complete loyalty. Tradition counts Venus as weakened here, opposite its own Taurus, because ease gives way to intensity, and jealousy is the familiar risk.
Venus in Sagittarius
Venus in Sagittarius treats love as an adventure. It is drawn to honesty, humour, travel and people from a different background, and it needs room to roam. Astrologers describe it as warm and frank, and slow to accept anything that feels like a fence.
Venus in Capricorn
Venus in Capricorn takes love seriously. It is reserved at first, shows commitment through effort and planning, and respects a partner with ambition. The traditional reading is loyalty that lasts, with affection that can look more like duty than romance.
Venus in Aquarius
Venus in Aquarius wants a friend first. It values independence, unusual ideas and a relationship that follows its own rules. Astrologers read it as loyal in its own way, and uncomfortable with possessiveness or heavy displays of emotion.
Venus in Pisces
Astrologers call Venus exalted in Pisces, the sign where it is most honoured. It loves without keeping score: tender, romantic, forgiving and quick to feel what the other person feels. The risk named most often is seeing a partner as you wish they were.
Where Venus is strong and weak
Traditional astrology ranks how comfortable a planet is in each sign. For Venus the ranking runs as follows.
| Sign | Element | Standing of Venus |
|---|---|---|
| Aries | Fire | In detriment |
| Taurus | Earth | At home (rules the sign) |
| Gemini | Air | Neutral |
| Cancer | Water | Neutral |
| Leo | Fire | Neutral |
| Virgo | Earth | In fall |
| Libra | Air | At home (rules the sign) |
| Scorpio | Water | In detriment |
| Sagittarius | Fire | Neutral |
| Capricorn | Earth | Neutral |
| Aquarius | Air | Neutral |
| Pisces | Water | Exalted |
Questions people ask
Where is my Venus sign in my chart?
Look for the Venus symbol, a circle with a small cross beneath it. The sign that symbol sits in is your Venus sign, and the numbered segment of the chart it sits in is its house. This calculator gives you the sign and degree without needing a full chart.
Which sign is Venus in now?
On October 11, 2026, Venus was at 7°09′ Scorpio, moving retrograde. It stays in Scorpio until October 25, 2026.
What sign is Venus in during 2026?
Venus visits 11 signs in 2026, missing Sagittarius. It is retrograde from October 3, 2026 to November 14, 2026, backing from 8° Scorpio to 22° Libra. The table of sign dates above has every change.
Is your Venus sign the same as your Sun sign?
For roughly a quarter of people, yes. Venus shares the Sun's sign on 24% of days. The rest of the time it is one or two signs away, which is why two people with the same Sun sign can want very different things from a relationship.
What does it mean to be born with Venus retrograde?
Astrologers read a retrograde Venus as affection turned inward: slower to trust, more private about feelings, and inclined to question the usual rules about love and money. It is uncommon. Venus is retrograde from October 3, 2026 to November 14, 2026, and then not again until May 10, 2028.
Do I need my birth time to find my Venus sign?
Usually not. Venus changes sign about once every 25 days, so on most birthdays the whole day falls inside one sign. If you were born on a day Venus changed sign, the calculator lists both possibilities and asks for a birth time to settle it.
